Discover the hidden thoughts that create behavior
Ever been curious why a person didn?t like or trust you when they didn?t even know you. What about certain groups, clubs or associations?? Have you ever been curious why they felt differently than their rivals, so much so, they would be willing to inflict bodily harm on the other. And, ever wonder why you had an ideal mate when you?ve never met them or in some cases, dated. The truth is, YOU have favorable or unfavorable thoughts and beliefs YOU are unconscious?of having.
A widespread assumption is a person’s thoughts and feelings are only explicit in nature, meaning a person knows and understands their thoughts and feelings as being from conscious awareness to form one’s attitude.
An individual may not always be consciously aware of the causal origin of an implicit thought or belief. Moreover, once discovered, many are unwilling to change their implicit attitudes even though they are aware the implicit attitude is detrimental, adverse or unjust in nature. Why though?
First, what is an Implicit Attitude?
Implicit attitudes are unconscious and uncontrolled. For instance, a person may have grown up in a family or culture where extreme prejudice against other ethnic groups (implicit attitudes) are deeply ingrained. However, with age, distance, and education a person may choose to adopt an inclusive and non-prejudiced “explicit attitude.” An explicit attitude is the conscious and chosen attitudes that a person displays while interacting with the world. These are the behaviors and beliefs that others see.
